Did you know that Kefalonia is famous for one of the most amazing geological phenomena in the world? The "katavothres", the best known sinkholes on the island, are about two kilometers from Argostoli on the coastal road to Lassi. The sea water creeps here between the rocks, disappears, flows in underground rivers fed by rainwater and re-emerges in brackish composition on the other side of the island!

Sapevate che Cefalonia è famosa per uno dei fenomeni geologici più sorprendenti del mondo? A circa due chilometri da Argostoli, sulla strada costiera per Lassi, si trovano i "katavothres", le doline più conosciute dell'isola. L'acqua del mare si insinua qui tra le rocce, scompare sottoterra, fluisce in fiumi sotterranei alimentati da acqua piovana e riemerge in composizione salmastra addirittura dall'altro lato dell'isola!

On the occasion of the International Lighthouse Weekend, today Sunday 21 August 28 lighthouses throughout Greece will open to the public between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the contribution of lighthouses to navigation safety but also their great significance in terms of cultural heritage. Since many lighthouses are now in a state of neglect and suffer from vandalism, the event aims to raise public awareness of the need to preserve these important witnesses of maritime history before they are irretrievably lost.

In occasione del Fine Settimana Internazionale del Faro, oggi domenica 21 agosto 28 fari in tutta la Grecia apriranno al pubblico tra le 10 e le 20. I visitatori avranno l'opportunità di conoscere meglio il contributo dei fari alla sicurezza della navigazione ma anche il loro grande significato in termini di patrimonio culturale. Poiché molti fari sono oggi in stato di abbandono e soffrono di atti vandalici, l'evento aspira a sensibilizzare il pubblico sulla necessità di conservare questi importanti testimoni della storia marinara prima che vengano irrimediabilmente perduti.

The climate of Kefalonia is typically Mediterranean, with mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
