In the face of a tragedy, the evidences of those who have personally experienced pain or have lived it through the painful stories of their loved ones strike us much more than historical facts.

As human beings, it is impossible not to feel empathy for those who have suffered injustices and abuses or who have sacrificed their own lives for the cause they believed in. Thus, even in the darkest moments, relationships are established and ties are tightened, one's ethics is allowed to prevail over ideologies and fear, glimmers of light and hope can be glimpsed.

In commemorating the Acqui Division, the human closeness shown by the people of Kefalonia should be remembered as much as the sad story of the Italian soldiers. There are endless tales of the islanders who hid, protected, fed the Italian soldiers at the risk of their own lives. Equally numerous are the painful stories of those who have lost family members due to the reprisals of the Germans. Despite the war and the invading role of the Italians, the militaries of the Acqui Division are not remembered with anger and contempt, but with the smile that is dedicated to young people far from their country, more men than soldiers, capable of acts of kindness and to make themselves loved.

Di fronte a una tragedia, molto più dei fatti storici ci colpiscono le testimonianze di chi ha vissuto il dolore sulla propria pelle o ha convissuto con esso tramite i sofferti racconti dei propri cari. Come esseri umani, è impossibile non provare empatia per chi ha subito ingiustizie e soprusi o ha sacrificato la propria vita per la causa in cui credeva. Ecco quindi che anche nei momenti più bui si instaurano relazioni e si stringono legami, si permette alla propria etica di prevalere sulle ideologie e sulla paura, si possono scorgere dei barlumi di luce e di speranza. Nel commemorare la Divisione Acqui, la vicinanza umana dimostrata dalla gente di Cefalonia va ricordata quanto la triste vicenda dei soldati italiani. Sono infiniti i racconti degli isolani che hanno nascosto, protetto, nutrito i soldati italiani a rischio della loro stessa vita. Sono altrettanto numerosi i sofferti racconti di chi ha perso dei familiari proprio per le rappresaglie dei tedeschi. Nonostante la guerra e il ruolo di invasori degli italiani, i ragazzi della Divisione Acqui non sono ricordati con rabbia e disprezzo, ma con il sorriso che si dedica a dei giovani lontani dal loro paese, più uomini che soldati, capaci di atti di gentilezza e di farsi voler bene.

Il teatro delle ombre è una forma di intrattenimento molto diffusa nelle calde sere d’estate in Grecia. Le colorate locandine con Karagiozis, il protagonista principale di questi spettacoli popolari itineranti, sono affisse in tutti i villaggi e i più piccoli partecipano con entusiasmo alle rappresentazioni tra risate, momenti di eccitazione per le avventure dei protagonisti e riflessione sulle tematiche trattate.
